Why Leading German food manufacturer chose the Smart Palletizer

“Unlike our previous palletizer system, this one adapts to a variety of pallets and boxes and is simple for our team to use. It just runs; I don’t need to worry about it.”

Challenge

A well-known German food manufacturer, recognized for its baking products and puddings for over 100 years, previously relied on an industrial palletizer that simply wasn’t built for the reality of their end-of-line.

The system particularly struggled with palletizing different-sized pallets and adapting to multiple box formats. As a result, their end-of-line was frequently interrupted, leading to costly delays and wasted time for the production team.

What the production team needed instead was a user-friendly, flexible palletizer that could adapt to these changes without lengthy downtime or complex programming.

Enter the cobot palletizer from Smart Robotics

In the beginning, the manufacturer wanted to test the cobot palletizer from Smart Robotics before committing to a purchase. During this phase, the team was very impressed by its capabilities. Unlike their previous palletizer system, the cobot palletizer could handle a variety of pallet types with ease and adapt effortlessly to different box formats.

In addition, the cobot palletizer’s collaborative design meant they didn’t need to dedicate extra space for fencing. Its small footprint made it both cost-efficient and easily accessible for employees.

Implementation & Service

According to the technical manager of the manufacturer, commissioning of the palletizer went very fast and smoothly. The team was so impressed that they decided to fully purchase the cobot palletizer — not just in one location, but in two.

Today, they are operating with four cobot palletizers from Smart Robotics in total and are expecting a fork gripper soon to palletize open boxes.

Results that Stack Up

– ROI: The investment paid off in less than 2 years.

– Throughput: With around 600 boxes palletized per shift, the cobot palletizer delivers exactly what the company needs.

– Staff allocation: The team was able to allocate staff to higher-value roles and reduce manual palletizing work.

– Scalability: Today, the company runs with four cobot palletizers across different locations in Germany, with further automation projects in progress, including handling open boxes, a unique feature Smart Robotics offers.
